The last time Basecamp annoyed me enough to try and find an alternative I remembered a page called Why Basecamp Sux. Say what you will of the rant or the spelling but the list of alternatives was great. That site now appears to redirect to 45 Basecamp Alternatives at PM Sherpa. After spending several months trying out other solutions I settled back on… Basecamp. 5pm and Wrike are the ones that I checked out that might work for you. – JMS
